Ground has been broken in Murfreesboro for the future home of an Islamic Center that has been the target of vandalism and a lawsuit opposing the construction. An estimated 250 to 300 people attended the ceremony Wednesday, according to The Daily News Journal. (http://bit.ly/nlrSXK) The site is for a larger mosque than one located elsewhere in the city. Supporters have said they hope to open the first phase of the mosque a year from now in time for the center’s observances of the Islamic holy month of Ramadan. The Daily News Journal said four protesters were present Wednesday. The congregation has around 250 families and 1,000 people.
