Masjid Mubarak

If you’ve happened to have driven along Westfield’s Blvd towards route 50, you would have most likely noticed the emerging building at the top of the hill on Walney Rd. That building is the new mosque named Masjid Mubarak, and is projected to be finished by January of 2012. The Ahmadi Muslims have been waiting a long time for this project to be complete, ever since the land was bought over a decade ago in 1998. Funds had been continuously collected within the Ahmadi Muslim community, yet financial needs still posed an issue causing the delay for the project thus far. “The delays can be contributed to shortage in collection, and due to the fact that our Mosques are built without financing,” Usman Chaudhry comments. However the community recently has been making great efforts in fundraising for their mosque, like the Football tournament that raised $30,000. Saud Iqbal, who organized the event states: “Around 50 brothers participated in the games and all donated towards the mosque. Even many non-Ahmadies [Muslims] came and supported this cause with charitable donations.” Talha Chaudhry, who was a participant, had this to say: “It was just some fun flag football game in which participants paid some donations for the mosque fund. We played for around 2 to3 hours. It was a good, fun and spirited competition.” All in all, it looks like we’ll be seeing this new addition soon enough, with its expected completion coming soon, it is hoped by all that it will be a place of peace.
