Cairo: The killing of an official in President Hosni Mubarak's party is not politically motivated, according to a security source.
The body of Mohamed Zaki, the secretary of the ruling National Democratic Party in the Sixth of October City west of Cairo, was found inside his office.
"Initial investigations have shown that Zaki’s murder has no political motive," added the source, who spoke on condition of anonymity, because he was not authorized to talk to the media.
Zaki was stabbed ten times in the back, the neck, the stomach and the chest, police said on Thursday.
"The police are trying to unravel the mystery of the murder by checking the numbers on Zaki’s mobile phone," said the source.
Egypt is scheduled to elect a new parliament, which is presently dominated by Mubarak’s party, next year.
Egypt, the Arab world’s most populous country, has recently been shaken by grisly murders, including the slaying of a prominent woman banker by the husband of her maid for her money.
Another high-profile murder was the killing of two children by a relative of their father. Revenge was cited for the murder.
