Cairo: Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak visits the United States on May 26-27 to meet US President Barack Obama, Egypt’s state-run news agency reported on Tuesday.
Mubarak’s visit will be his first to the United States in five years.
Egypt had a strained relationship with the Bush administration over US criticism of the country’s human rights record and treatment of political dissidents.
The Obama administration has hinted it will not hinge it’s relationship with Egypt on human rights demands.
Mubarak’s visit will come shortly before Obama is scheduled to deliver a speech in Egypt on June 4 to be addressed to the Muslim world.
