Advocacy Group Calls on Attorney General to Investigate. 'Children of the Earth' Center for human rights called on the Attorney General to investigate the sectarian sedition incidents in Elbeyda village, Temay Elamdid, Dakahliya Province, which took place this week.
The advocacy genter exposed in its statement, the collusion between the authorities at the police department, Mansoura Emergency Hospital, the engineering department and the local city council, and called on the Attorney General to take them to task.
Elbeyda village, were the transgressions took place, has a population of 20,000 people, among which are only 250 Christians, working mainly in agriculture. The statement continued: «it seems that the small number of Christians has tempted Muslim fanatics to wrong them, encouraged by the silence of the responsible authorities, which have turned a blind eye to their actions ».
The human rights center reported one of the affected Copts in the Elbeyda village as saying: that he and his brother bought a house and after obtaining a license for renewal and replacement, they were bewildered to find their angry Muslim neighbors threatening them. On 8th March, they were surprised by Temay Elamdid police arresting him, his brother and his cousin, without any reason.
The victimized Copt went on to say in the report of the ‘Children of the Earth’ Center, that during their arrest, the Muslim neighbors assaulted their families’ children and women, who were rushed to the hospital emergency unit in Mansoura.
The Hospital, however, refused to register the names of those injured in the admissions register, in order not to establish proof of the assault incidents.
