Shots Fired on Capitol Hill, ‘Officers Injured’

U.S. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid said on Thursday that one person was injured in a shooting on Capitol Hill, CNN reports.
 
The Federal Bureau of Investigation has dispatched units to the Capitol, following reports of shots fired near Garfield Circle, which is on the west front of the Capitol Building, the network said.
 
According to U.S. Capitol Police, officers are injured. 
 
Media reports suggested the incident began at the White House and ended up on Capitol Hill.
 
ABC News issued an alert saying someone had tried to ram the gate at the White House and then fled in a vehicle with police in pursuit.
 
NBC News reporter Pete Williams tweeted that the incident began at the White House and turned into a car chase. 
 
Senior congressional staffers and one eyewitness told Fox News the incident began with a car chase, which ended near the Capitol building. Sources said several police cars were in pursuit of a vehicle, and that when they had succeeeded in blocking its way, the driver got out and five or six shots were fired.
 
Witnesses saw a baby being taken from the car.
 
The Hill cited some lawmakers as saying seven or eight shots were fired, and that they seemed to be coming from the area of the Rayburn House Office Building.
 
Sirens were going off in the Capitol, and an order was given over the Capitol speaker system to shelter in place because of an active shooter situation. The lockdown has since been lifted.
